No Ordinary Love

Nothing like a convention coming into town to freshen up my knowledge of the toy scene. Ran into this beautifully detailed piece coming out from the lovely Camilla d'Errico, based on her painting, 'No Ordinary Love'. How precious! Glad to see she's still into our tentacle-ly friends.

Blog-o-sphere

Hello my remaining followers!

First of all, thank you to all the people that have kept in touch with this blog <3

It has been quite the hiatus I took but I come back with my fancy Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, with a minor in English. HUZZAH FOR ME. Its been an intense journey with my senior courses and projects but sadly, school is over. Until grad school that is...

But enough about me.

Oh and I also took a trip to Europe right after my last finals. IT WAS QUITE AWESOME IF I MAY SAY SO. However, no octopuses were seen.

rare octopus

"Hey Luu,
I was digging through my old sketch book, and I found this drawing I did of an octopus I created approx 10 - 12 years ago. Thought you'd enjoy it (since you're fond of the octopus and stuff)
Hope all is well

Luke Chueh"

Thanks again Luke! :D

On a personal note, all is well, and at a super busy rate too. School just keeps getting busier and busier and I find myself more and more involved on campus with my documentary club and Asian heritage month committee. My blogs have definitely been on MIA but only because I am in action everywhere else. Posts will be slow but I'll try to keep them steady. Hang in there octopie blog, I still love you.

Quintet

A lithograph & screen-print poster I found at Central Illustration by Mick Marston. He should definitely consider making some animations (if he hasn't already). I think they would be a trip. Fun trip.

Corridors of Blood

I just love red and teals. It's just... so perfect.
It made my night to discover this delightful illustrator, Josh Cochran, whom I have probably seen his work one time or another from some source of media around Los Angeles. I also have to mention how adorable A Spoonful of Sugar print is. I'm a sucker for umbrellas too...

Make Room For the Emptiness

Teal and red.
My favorite color combination; a duo that our Jim Houser is familiar with and used for his last solo show at Jonathan Levine. I'm grown heavily attached to his simplistic, clean pieces whether they be single subjects in hollow space, or a cluster of ideas intertwined into one thought. I have yet to experience one of his installations in person but until then, a collection of his work on my blog will do.

camille rose garcia

No, I did not miss Camille Rose Garcia's recent show in LA called "Hydra of Babylon".
For shame that would have been.

Though she didn't have any new pieces with our tentacled friends, her squid plush was there to represent for us.
Here are the prints of her past work with the sea creatures lurking.
*sorry the photo's aren't great*
Breath-taking.
If you missed it, view the show here.

Etsy Monday

I've done an etsy feature before but that was a year ago, so it's definitely time to bring it back. I present to you: Etsy Monday. I may do it every other week or monthly... let's just go with the flow and see how it goes.

My first Etsy Monday find: Lisa Falzon.
Besides her dreary yet dreamy illustrations, she also includes novel storytelling with each piece. Multi-talent at it's best.

the sea also rises

"Nakatomi has finally unleashed the new collaborative art print by Tim Doyle and Kevin Tong. “The Sea Also Rises” is an 18″ x 24″ screenprint, has an edition of 140, and is $30. There is also a line art variant with an edition of 30 for $50. In case you’re wondering, Doyle did the drawing and Tong handled the colors. Visit NakatomiInc.com."

-Found this baby at omgposters.com. I've actually met Kevin before during a Craft show; nice fellow and fantastic silk screener. I use to silk-screen myself, so seeing his crazy details and color usage, I definitely appreciate his work.

Street Sweets Show

Baby Shines Bright by Thomas Han
YumekaMakotoka by Mari Inukai

What a great time to start blogging again! Came back from the Street Sweets show at Gallery Nucleus with some octo love. Because you know... with Japanese street fashion comes octopuses. We've got Thomas Han's hybrid pink creature and Mari's girl rocking a little devil octopus on her shirt. Don't miss this show if you're around L.A. right now.

pointless post

Sorry, this blog has been really disappointing lately :(

I actually just wanted to update with...

has anyone else noticed how the subject of my beloved octopus creature is so popular in the art world today? I use to be so excited to see something tentacle-ly in a gallery but I feel like I see it everywhere now. It's great yet overwhelming for me because I just don't know which to update first and unfortunately, it leads to no update at all.

I apologize. I will try to get back on my toes. Seriously.

I'm serious.
